This is my son intently playing with some items he found in the yard at his Granny’s house. You can’t tell it here, but his right hand is lifted with a wooden stick that he was using to crush petals from a flower. My older daughter had done the same and he was imitating her. I love the imagination of a child. The simplicity of a “toy” found in nature. I immediately envisioned a life very different from my own. I was on a prairie with an apron over a long billowy skirt. Despite the hardships of life, I somehow had the time and ability to not only make clothing and food from scratch, but to make dyes and inks from flowers.
I love how a simple moment like this can spark your imagination, taking you on a journey to a different place or different life. There are so many moments like this every day, and I want to slow down and notice those little treasures. Have you ever had one of those moments? I challenge you to slow down and look for one of them today.
Coming back to present day, I’ve been working in wordpress on this site. Both websites & wordpress have changed so much through the years. I’m impressed with how complicated & how simple it is at the exact same time. I remember when I put together some of my first html coding for a website in the early internet days, how far things have come. When I got serious about setting up Gracefelt, I knew that I wanted to use wordpress with genesis and that I wanted to use a child theme. There are so many beautiful themes to choose from, I could have continued looking forever without picking. In the interest of “finished is better than perfect,” I narrowed it down to just one and got started. There is definitely a learning curve & I am still in a trial & error (okay lots of error) phase. I’m focusing on celebrating every bit of this work-in-progress. If you happened to have stumbled across this page during this time, welcome & watch your step, everything may not be exactly where it should be yet. In the mean time I want to get some posts up so I can see how everything works together. I hope wherever you are, that you can find treasure in the simple moments of your life today.
